CreditFactors server problems update
My server was down yesterday for a few hours and again today (Sunday).
Support News:
[ Phoenix, Arizona DC ] We had an outage yesterday but we’re back up after about an hour and a half. We had another outage about 2 hrs ago and we are still working on it. All servers are down until we get all of this figured out. Because the problems have happened a few times in 24 hrs we have decided to keep all servers down until a definitive solution is reached as there can be far more problems if servers are going up and down. We believe we are close to having this all taken care of though and once we do we will be bringing everything back up and update all here. We appreicate your patience and understanding.
I’m looking to move to more reliable hosting. If anyone has recommendations for MANAGED hosting, please contact me directly. Am currently paying $189/month and would like to pay LESS.

RSS links not working—sorry!
Several subscribers have emailed that the links don’t work in the RSS subscriptions. I’m using the Google Feedburner service for the RSS and I have NO idea how to fix this or WHY this is all of a sudden a problem. I have made NO changes here.
I just wasted about an hour searching for solutions. Found THIS thread at http://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/135186/P0/ and as I’m unfortunately using the ExpressionEngine software, that’s the most relevant info I found.
However, after reading these posts, I don’t have the slightest clue how to fix it. My expertise is credit, not RSS. Since the EE support requires upgrading and I have no intention of doing so due to the possibility of MORE problems, I’m afraid it can’t be fixed.
I hate EE with a passion and I am moving everything to WordPress at http://liarsandcheats.info/ and I really want to finish setting up the new site. So I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but I just don’t have the time and resources to hire people to fix this.
-- Update: I THINK I fixed it.

Only members can submit comments—too much SPAM
Finally members actually have a benefit—they can submit comments.
I recently posted at Trado my specific complaints about the Expression Engine software running this site:
ExpressionEngine CMS deadware? I’m afraid so - commercial EE license for sale CHEAP
I don’t understand how the FREE WordPress can be so much more user friendly and FUNCTIONAL and I just can’t stand dealing with the SPAM here anymore.
So I changed the settings to only allow comments from registered members and we’ll see how that goes.
Hope to soon post some more info on NCO and the depo, been so busy with paying work and working on my house, sorry.

Pixma MP830 error code: 6A00—best deal for replacement?
This post is for my geek readers. I’ve already searched the error code 6A00 extensively, looks like the MP 830 is a goner.
It happened after I changed an ink cartrige and it worked fine. All of a sudden I got the error and the thing with the ink wasn’t moving anymore.
So I’ve been searching for a replacement because I have a TON of ink for it and last time I called Canon, they still had real people speaking English giving fairly good support. I’m exactly 2 months over the 1 year warranty. As I recall, the printer did have a problem last year and Canon shipped a refurb VERY quickly with the shipping label for sending back the old printer. I was very pleased—compare that to HP outright refusing to honor the warranty and CRAPPY India support if you ever get past their automated “call director.”
I also read in my MP830 research that the 850 is not exactly an improvement as it scans a lot slower.
Newegg had a $199 Google ad, but they seem to be sold out. The next best deal seems to be in the $230 range at Amazon.
It would be nice to be able to purchase another year replacement warranty as my printers usually die in the 2nd year, if not sooner.
Any Canon coupons/rebates anywhere?
8/8/08 Update:
I ordered the new 830 at Amazon for about $230 and I just set it up. Had carried the old one into the kitchen to make room for the spare last week and now turned it on to move the ink cartridges to the new machine. Amazingly, there was NO error code.
Before I moved it out of the office I turned it on occasionally, manually moved the print head, nothing worked. I can only guess that moving it out of the office did “something.”
Well, it’s nice to have a NEW printer. It came with new cartridges and I couldn’t get yellow to work on the old one, it’s good to have all colors again.
Also, do NOT buy the Amazon extended warranty.
I spent some time reading reviews and it is HORRIBLE. There are actually stupid idiots who give it 5 stars because they “promptly received email with the warranty info.” But when you read the comments from people who actually TRIED to use it, you know you’re paying for future agony.

Frontiernet best deal on DSL $75/month + modem $100 SCAM
My DSL contract recently expired and my phone bill for basic service and DSL and NO long distance is now about $95. On the contract special, I got a $20 monthly discount. I actually don’t understand why my bill is only about $10 higher without the $20 discount, it was always over $80.
So I checked their website and typed “DSL special” in the search box. It searched the web and listed many phone companies at around $30/month for DSL. I even saw specials with a couple months free for switching from cable. Of course there is no cable here and also NO competition.
My only option is to go to satellite or downgrading to dial up and that would be hard, considering that I do all my business on the web. But then again, I don’t do that much “business”, most of what I do doesn’t pay and in fact, costs me even more money, such as downloading PACER filings for interesting court cases.
Next week my nephew arrives to help me with some more building and he deserves a decent connection. But when he leaves, I’ll either go to dialup or some other alternative. Maybe I’ll drop phone service entirely.
I’ve had SO many problems with Frontier when I moved and I finally cancelled my 2nd line. For a while I had DSL in both places, but of course had them disconnect the DSL when I moved my main line last September.
They had the nerve to bill me $100 for the modem without ever asking for the modem.
I actually had put the modem into the phone guy’s hand when I moved my main line last September. He set it down again and left.
After I called them, they finally sent a shipping box. It had instructions to put the modem into the enclosed packaging material. There was no packaging material. I had email with them. Lots of confusion. Endless hours wasted.
Finally, I asked whether I could take it to the Kingman Frontier office and they agreed. They refused to take it and ordered another shipping box to be mailed to me, since I had already thrown it away, thinking I’d return the modem in person.
I also paid my two phone bills while at their office. Of course they screwed that up too, applied both payments to ONE line. Don’t know how that could happen, they gave me two receipts, one for each line. If Frontier CAN screw it up, they WILL screw it up.
So I finally got to mail the modem back, probably about 2 months ago, without packaging as they told me to because it again was not included. Last week I called to see whether they received it since the last bill still included the $100. No credit was posted. So I told them to disconnect that line. I’ve always had 2 lines just in case one doesn’t work, used one line for fax, and had my share of phone problems at my old place.
The nerve to charge $100 for that modem.
I just checked Ebay, these modems sell for next to nothing.
The Speedstream 6520 that I’m currently using is up for auction for $5 and it’s a MUCH better modem than what I had before. The old one didn’t have wireless and I had to use a separate router.
I’ve also been charged late fees on that $100. I realize now that the installer was probably trained NOT to take the modem. It’s a lot more profitable to bill $100 for essentially NOTHING.
Frontier, like all big corporations, refined its methods to defraud its customers.
And the regulators do NOTHING about this fraud.
One more thing. It is usually impossible for me to pay the bill by the due date since the post-office doesn’t deliver to my place and it takes a week for Compass Bank to send out checks. So they told me on the phone that you can finally check and pay your account online.
The catch: It would cost me $3/month to view my account balance online because I would have to agree to no longer receive mailed statements or pay an extra $3/month.
When hell freezes over! There is no way that I’ll give up my paper statements for phone bills, credit cards, bank statements, etc.
The late fees are less than this $36 annual fee to be able to pay on time.
