CreditForum.org forum offline due to license dispute with vBulletin Pirate Hunter
This is one of the more bizarre events of the year.
The summary of what transpired:
I *purchased* a license for vB several years ago. I thought that this license would never expire. I did however have to pay $30/year in order to get support and updates. I CLOSED http://www.creditforum.org/ last year to new questions, and a month or two ago I finally turned off registration because too many people submitted questions instead of contributions. My vB support subscription expired in 4/04.

The new site: moved from MT to ExpressionEngine
I moved the blog from Movable Type (MT) to ExpressionEngine. A lot has been written about the lack of new features, the outrageous pricing and lack of communications as well as misrepresentations by the MT developers, just do a Google for details.
I was very offended because there was no notice that upgrading from the beta to the final required the purchase. It’s unbelievable how buggy the beta was when I installed it just a few days before the release of the final version. I couldn’t even add myself as approved commenter, had to manually approve every one of my own comments. Considering that comment management was the only new feature, it’s obvious that they left those bugs in the final beta to force beta testers to purchase 3.0. I had sent in my donation after I used MT for a while and was quite happy with it last summer, but I don’t go for cramdown sales tactics.
ExpressionEngine is very powerful, but what a learning curve when you know nothing about templates and stylesheets.
At this time I don’t have any “members only” content yet, and I’m not sure whether to require registration for all comments. I have been “moderating” and manually approving comments at MT because I just couldn’t deal with all the comment spam anymore.
I’m leaning towards automatically approving member comments and allowing unregistered users to comment after they type in the “captcha” image letters to keep the spam bots out. I’ll have to see how it works best.
A major new feature is the notification of a reply to a comment. Hopefully that works ok.
I’ll post details about comments and membership once I figured out how to set it up.
I decided to go live despite some known problems:
I just have to start using it and fix bugs as I get to it.

No wonder they drag their feet, hoping I’ll die or something …
It's a miracle this Mojave Green didn't bite me.
This beautiful snake rattled instead striking me.
It looked like it was considering leaving my place when the bullet hit.
It died because it was so courteous and communicated with me.
