My demand to netzero for full refund after they failed to process my cancellation request
When I went to Dallas last year in June to depose Experian employees, I signed up with netzero because they claimed to have local dial-up numbers everywhere and I thought I’d keep it for a backup when my main access at home goes down. After I got back from Dallas, I found out that there is NO local access number and no toll-free number. I called to cancel and the guy was a total moron.
He demanded that I call their tech support to get a local number.
BTW, they charged a FEE to call tech support. I told him that I was very busy and most certainly had no intention of paying for tech support. He wanted to give me some code to make the call free of charge. Needless to say, I was EXTREMELY busy after having been on the road for a week and I told him to cancel my account.
He REFUSED.
My final words were to close the account and I hung up.
Of course he did NOT close my account. They’ve been charging my credit card month after month. Now that we’re looking at a couple hundreds dollars, I just wasted my time on finding my login info (they don’t accept email without it) and submitting my request for the refund at their site:
Please close my account and refund ALL charges to my credit card. I cancelled this account in 6/06 because you don’t have a local dial up number.
Please issue the full credit within 7 days.
Should you NOT issue the credit for all charges, i will:
1) dispute with my credit card
2) sue you for whatever amount you don’t credit + costs + the time I wasted on this at my regular hourly fee of $100/hr + any other relief I may be entitled to.
FYI, I have the recorded call with my cancellation and as your records will show, I have not been able to use this account since you do not provide a local number.
And if you think my legal threats are the usual dissatisfied customer BS, please check my website http://creditsuit.org/, where I just posted a copy of this submission at http://creditsuit.org/credit.php/blog/comments/my_demand_to_netzero_for_full_refund_after_they_failed_to_process_my_cancel/ and you will be featured like all the other crooks I had to sue if you do not promptly issue the full refund of all charges.
Sincerely,
Christine Baker
I am so tired of all these crooks stealing my money. I have the RIGHT to cancel my account for ANY reason. It’s beyond me why this idiot I talked to last year demanded that I work FREE OF CHARGE, I’m NOT their slave. And how could he be so stupid to think that tech support would magically find a local number. They didn’t have one then, they don’t have one now—I just checked.
Wasn’t there a class action against AOL or some other internet provider for refusing to close accounts?
Maybe netzero needs to pay a few million in legal fees to class action lawyers.
