Experian online dispute problem and NO telephone number on the credit report
This is just so frustrating.
I got Experian CreditManager’s alert for the WaMu delinquent account, now reported as 30 days late.
So I wanted to dispute it online. Please note that I do NOT normally recommend online disputes because only very few consumers are able to DOCUMENT their dispute by saving each screen and because you only have a few characters to describe a specific dispute. Since the Experian online disputes are supposed to be transmitted directlly to the creditors, I thought it would be the way to contact WaMu without having the CRAs mess up my dispute by applying some stupid code INSTEAD of forwarding my exact dispute.
After 20 minutes of clicking around, I give up. There’s a link on HOW to dispute:
To dispute:
Select an account or public record item
Click on the item to view the details
Click the orange “Dispute this item” button next to the account or public record you believe is inaccurate
Select the specific reason that best explains why you feel the information is inaccurate
If you need to further explain the reason for your dispute, click on the “Additional information” box and type in your comments (this information will be forwarded to the source for verification purposes only)If you want to add a personal statement to your report, select “Personal statement” and choose your statement. Once you add the statement, it will display to anyone who reviews your report.
...
There is NO orange “Dispute this item” button next to the account.
There are links to more of the crummy Experian products, but NO dispute button.
I also checked the “Your Personal Statement” link and there’s a link on how to add and delete statements. According to the link, there should be an “Add statement” button, but here is none.
Again, I do NOT recommend these statements, they are NOT usually seen by creditors and if so, they are ignored. I just wanted to see whether it worked, but there was NO link to add a statement either.
So, is it just ME or is the CreditManager web site screwed up?
Oh, I WOULD have called, but I could not find a phone number ANYWHERE.
I reviewed the Experian report and it does NOT provide a telephone number for disputes!
It makes me so angry.
This is one more reason to STOP paying your unsecured debt.
UPDATE:
I found their phone # after I logged out:
“For general information or product questions contact us at 1-866-673-0140”
I called and got to a guy who claimed to be able to see the buttons that I can NOT see.
This is totally crazy. I’m using IE 7. When I have more time, I’ll log on a client’s report and to see what I see there.
Here is the number for telephone DISPUTES, but my dispute is too important to let Experian screw it up:

I wished I read this great report first!! my error!! after I saw the page with the credit card informaion I chose not to give it AND I chose not to receive the free report they promised. OOPS, to late, they took the info with the very personal date and took it off the screen, erasing it so I couldn’t access IT, where did it go????? The first page (step 1) was still registering on my computer. I tried to write over/back space/delete the info several times but to no avail!!!!!!!!!!!!! It still appeared, even going through the history to the beginning page I STUPIDLY CLICKED ON. where is THIS information going to? Do you report this to experian. IM AN IDIOT CONSUMER AND WANT TO REPORT THEM TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU, think it will do any good??? DON’T EVEN CLICK ON THIS SITE!!!!!!!! all to late, but thanks christine:}
Mary, don’t worry about your information, they DO have all your info as it is.
If you didn’t get an order confirmation, you should be ok.
And don’t bother complaining anywhere. They probably have the data saved for a little while so that people who WANT to order don’t have to retype everything if they make a mistake or forgot to fill out a required field.
