Metavante - Quicken update about the unauthorized Bill Pay account activations
Since I haven’t received any response to my e-mail and VM last week, I’m assuming that the allegations are true:
Metavante accidentally activated about 27,000 CheckFree Bill Pay accounts during the transfer from Check Free to Metavante. Apparently these accounts were previously active and then the consumers had canceled. It appears that these cancellations were ignored during the transfer.
If you have been charged for Bill Pay without authorization, please post or send me an email to with “Quicken” in the subject.
Here’s my final attempt to illicit some comments from Metavante, my fax to their legal department:

Re: Notice of Publication and Request for Comments
To Whom It May Concern:
I posted at my website http://creditsuit.org/credit.php/blog/comments/1205/:
“27,000 Quicken bill pay accounts activated in error during move from Checkfree to Metavante?”
Metavante is accused of failing to deactivate the accounts and refusing full refunds to consumers upon request.
On 7/1/05, I left a VM with Chip Swearngan, Metavante Investor and Public Relations, after I didn’t receive a reply to my e-mail to him.
As of today, I have not received any comments from Metavante.
Obviously, in absence of a denial, I will be assuming that the allegations at my sites are true.
Sincerely,
Christine Baker

I have recently had repeated interactions with quicken. I had plans to begin an account with Quicken, but after sleeping on it communicated with Quicken to not activate my account. I received confirmation that they would not activate the account, and inquired that I contact them if I needed assistance in the future or to notify them of a current problem. This electronic communication occurred in Apri (17th) 2005. In June (22nd) they accessed my checking account, and I was charged a $25 fee. I exchanged electronic communication with Quicken again, rgarding immediate cancellation of my account, reimbursement, as well as questioning the legitimacy of their business practices with unauthorized activity on my checking account. Quicken’s reply was that first of all they did claimed not to receive electronic communication in April, and then when I presented the documentation of not only my coomunication their response they claimed that I needed to follow the initial cancellation with a telephone call. They reassured me the account was cancelled, but nothing would be done regarding the money charged my account. July 2005 (25th) they again accessed my checking account and I was yet again charged a 25 dollar fee. I have electronically communicated with them, as well as called the company where I was guaranteed a return call within the hour. Three hours later, there is no follow up telephone call.

It’s unbelievable what a company like Intuit will do to defraud their customers. I can’t believe I recommended their products for so many years.
There may well be a class action, please send me your contact info to if you’re interested in participating.
I am a current employee of Metavante. The company is very corrupt - steer clear of them
Unfortunately, there are few companies that are NOT corrupt.
